Doug Ricks

Doug Ricks is a Republican politician and businessman currently serving as a member of the Idaho State Senate, representing the 34th district. Early life and career

Doug Ricks was born in Madison County, Idaho, to parents Evelyn and Mark Ricks. Growing up on a potato farm, he was immersed in agricultural life from an early age, which likely influenced his later political focus on agricultural issues. Ricks attended Madison High School, where he completed his secondary education before pursuing higher education.

He earned an associate degree in general agriculture and farm crop management, which provided him with foundational knowledge in agricultural practices. Following this, he attended Brigham Young University–Idaho, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. This educational background equipped Ricks with both practical and theoretical insights into the agricultural sector, which is significant in Idaho's economy.

In 1987, Ricks ventured into the business world by opening a computer store in Rexburg, Idaho. This entrepreneurial endeavor marked the beginning of his career in technology. In 2000, he transitioned to a role at Brigham Young University–Idaho as a computer lab manager, where he was responsible for overseeing the operations of the computer facilities. His work in this capacity allowed him to gain experience in educational technology and support services.

Ricks later took on the position of Assistive Technology Coordinator in the university's Disability Services Office. In this role, he focused on providing support and resources to students with disabilities, ensuring they had access to the necessary technology to succeed in their educational pursuits. Legislative service

Ricks entered the political arena in 2016 when he ran for the Idaho House of Representatives, specifically for seat 34A. However, he faced a setback in that election, losing the Republican primary to Ronald M. Nate. Undeterred, Ricks continued to pursue public office and successfully ran for the same seat in 2018. In the Republican primary, he defeated Nate, and subsequently won the general election unopposed on November 6, 2018.

During his time in the Idaho House of Representatives, Ricks served on several key committees, including the Judiciary, Rules & Administration, Revenue & Taxation, and Transportation & Defense committees.
