Joe Sosnowski was born on April 13, 1977, in Hanover Park, Illinois. He spent his formative years in Carol Stream, Illinois, where he completed his secondary education at West Chicago High School, graduating in 1995. Following high school, Sosnowski pursued higher education at Northern Illinois University, located in DeKalb, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, complemented by a minor in Political Science, in 1999.

Before entering the political arena, Sosnowski built a career in education and real estate. He served as the Director of Institutional Advancement at Rockford Christian Schools, a role he maintained until January 2020. His professional background also includes experience in real estate management and leasing, where he held the position of Vice President of Commercial Real Estate for Buckley Real Estate in Rockford. In addition to his real estate endeavors, he holds an Illinois Real Estate License.

Sosnowski has been actively involved in community service, having served as a regional board member of Children's Home and Aid, an organization focused on supporting vulnerable children and families.
