Mike Pence

Michael Richard Pence is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 50th governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, he is also known for his role as the 48th vice president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 under President Donald Trump. Pence's political career has included significant positions in both state and federal government, as well as a background in law and media.

Early life and career

Pence was born on June 7, 1959, in Columbus, Indiana, to Ann Jane "Nancy" Cawley and Edward Joseph Pence Jr. His father operated a group of gas stations and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star for his service. Pence's family background reflects a mix of German and Irish ancestry, with his paternal grandfather having worked in the Chicago stockyards and his maternal grandfather having emigrated from Ireland to the United States. He graduated from Columbus North High School in 1977 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in history from Hanover College in 1981. While at Hanover, he became involved in campus life, joining the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and eventually serving as its chapter president. After completing his undergraduate education, Pence worked as an admissions counselor at Hanover College from 1981 to 1983. He later obtained a Juris Doctor from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 1986.
