In 1995, Ruth earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Villa Julie College and subsequently ventured into the field of web development. She worked as a website developer that same year and later took on the role of a website technologies instructor in 1999. Following her instructional role, she became self-employed as a website developer, a position she maintained while also engaging in various leadership roles within the publishing industry.

Ruth has held several notable positions in the publishing community. Since 2003, she has served as the president of Imaginator Press, a publishing company. Additionally, she has been involved with the Cybils Awards as the current vice president and served as the president of the Mid-Atlantic Book Publishers Association from 2004 to 2008.
