Dawn Gile is an American politician and attorney currently serving as a member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 33, which encompasses parts of Anne Arundel County. Early life and career

Dawn Gile was born on January 1, 1980. She pursued her higher education at Rockford University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, complemented by a minor in French. Following her undergraduate studies, Gile attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree in 2006. After completing her education, she worked in the Chicago area, gaining valuable experience in the legal field.

In 2007, Gile relocated to Maryland, where she continued her professional journey. Before entering the political arena, she held the position of president of the Military Spouse JD Network, an organization that supports military spouses who are pursuing legal careers. Dawn Gile's political career took a significant turn when she filed to run for the Maryland Senate in District 33 in July 2021. She aimed to succeed state senator Edward R. Reilly, who later announced his retirement from the position. Gile ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, positioning herself as the party's candidate for the general election. In the general election, she faced Republican state delegate Sid Saab. Throughout her campaign, Gile garnered endorsements from prominent figures, including the President of the Maryland Senate, Bill Ferguson, former U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath, and former Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Housing, Ardath Cade.

The campaign was not without controversy; in October 2022, Saab filed a defamation lawsuit against Gile, alleging that her campaign materials contained false information about him and his business dealings. Gile characterized the lawsuit as a distraction and a misuse of the legal system. Ultimately, Saab withdrew the lawsuit after the election concluded.

On November 8, 2022, Gile was elected to the Maryland Senate, receiving a majority of the votes cast in the election. Her victory was historic, as she became the first Democrat to win the state Senate seat in 50 years, succeeding Robert R. Neall. Gile was sworn into office on January 11, 2023, and she is a member of the Finance Committee, where she participates in discussions and decisions regarding financial legislation and budgetary matters.
