Joe Tate

Joseph Allen Tate is an American politician and former professional football player currently serving as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 9th district. A member of the Democratic Party, Tate has been in office since 2019 and held the position of the 78th speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2023 to 2025. He briefly entered the race for the 2026 United States Senate election in Michigan but later decided to suspend his campaign in favor of seeking re-election to the state House.

Early life and career

Joe Tate was born on December 13, 1980, in Detroit, Michigan, as the youngest of four children. His early life was marked by the loss of his father, Coleman Sr., who was a firefighter in Detroit and passed away when Tate was just an infant.
