Phil Murphy

Philip Dunton Murphy, born on August 16, 1957, is an American politician and financier who served as the 56th governor of New Jersey from 2018 to 2026. A member of the Democratic Party, Murphy was elected to the governorship in 2017 and subsequently reelected in 2021. Early life and career

He furthered his education at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, where he received a Master of Business Administration in 1983.

Murphy's professional career began at Goldman Sachs, where he started as a summer associate intern in 1982. Following his graduation, he joined the firm full-time and quickly ascended through the ranks, demonstrating a talent for negotiation and deal-making. His career at Goldman Sachs spanned 23 years, during which he held several key positions. From 1993 to 1997, he led the firm's Frankfurt office, managing business operations across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, as well as in emerging markets in Central Europe. He played a significant role in privatizing formerly state-owned enterprises in East Germany.

In 1999, Murphy became a member of Goldman Sachs' management committee, working alongside notable figures such as Hank Paulson and Gary Cohn.
