Patrick Diegnan was born on March 19, 1949, in South Plainfield, New Jersey, where he was raised as the youngest of seven children in a family of Irish immigrants. Diegnan attended Sacred Heart Grammar School before graduating from South Plainfield High School in 1966. His educational journey continued at Seton Hall University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government in 1970.
