Early life and career

Arvind Venkat was born on June 6, 1974, in Madurai, India, into a Tamil family. His family immigrated to the United States when he was young, and he was raised in Detroit, Michigan. Venkat attended Detroit Country Day School, where he completed his high school education in 1992. He then pursued higher education at Harvard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Science, as well as a Master of Arts degree in the History of Science, graduating in 1996. Following his time at Harvard, Venkat attended the Yale School of Medicine, where he obtained his medical degree in 2000.

After completing his medical education, Venkat undertook a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, finishing in 2004. He subsequently became affiliated with Allegheny Health Network, which includes Allegheny General Hospital, where he has worked as an attending physician specializing in emergency medicine. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Venkat has also contributed to medical education as a professor of emergency medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. His professional involvement extended to leadership roles, including serving as president of the Pennsylvania chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians from 2019 to 2020, and later being elected to the board of the national organization.
