Salman Bhojani is a prominent American corporate lawyer and politician currently serving as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 92. A member of the Democratic Party, Bhojani's political career is notable for his historic election as one of the first Muslim and Pakistani individuals to serve in the Texas Legislature. Prior to his tenure in the state legislature, he was an elected member of the Euless City Council, where he made history as the first Muslim American to hold an elected office in Euless, Texas.

Early life and career

Salman Bhojani was born on February 18, 1980, in Pakistan, where he spent the first ten years of his life. His family immigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1990, marking a significant transition in their lives. In Canada, Bhojani completed his primary and secondary education, laying the groundwork for his future academic and professional pursuits. In 1999, he relocated with his family to Carrollton, Texas, where he continued to develop his educational and career aspirations.

Bhojani enrolled at the University of Texas at Dallas in 2000, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He completed this degree in 2003, during which time he also gained practical experience working in various roles, including at convenience stores and gas stations. His entrepreneurial spirit became evident when he acquired a gas station and convenience store in 2003, subsequently expanding his business interests by acquiring additional properties throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex in the following years.

In 2007, Bhojani moved to Bedford, Texas, and later settled in Euless in 2010. His commitment to furthering his education led him to enroll in the evening program at the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2009. He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2013 and was subsequently admitted to the State Bar of Texas, marking the beginning of his legal career.

Bhojani's professional journey in law began at Haynes and Boone, a prominent law firm in Dallas, where he practiced corporate law from 2013 to 2015. After gaining valuable experience in the legal field, he established Bhojani Law, PLLC, a firm that specializes in real estate law, corporate law, and estate planning, with offices located in Irving, Texas. His legal practice has allowed him to engage with a diverse clientele and address various legal issues within the community.

Legislative service

Bhojani's entry into public service began with his appointment to the Euless Parks & Leisure Services Board in 2014. This role provided him with an opportunity to contribute to the local community and gain insight into municipal governance. His political aspirations became more pronounced when he decided to run for a seat on the Euless City Council. In May 2017, he contested for Place 2 on the council, where he garnered 43.1% of the vote in a competitive three-candidate race. The election was ultimately won by the incumbent, Jeremy Tompkins, who received 54.6% of the votes.

Undeterred by this initial setback, Bhojani ran for an open seat on the Euless City Council in May 2018, this time for Place 6. His campaign proved successful, as he won the election with 50.4% of the vote, defeating his opponent, Molly Maddux, by a narrow margin of 37 votes out of a total of 4,203 votes cast. This election was notable for achieving the highest voter turnout in a Euless municipal election since 1993, reflecting a growing engagement among the electorate.

Bhojani's election to the Euless City Council was marked by significant media attention, particularly due to the nature of his campaign and the challenges he faced.
